Five things not to miss at Visa pour l’Image 2017

The photojournalism world is descending on the southern French town of Perpignan for Visa pour l’Image’s Professional Week, which runs from 4 to 9 September. Leading photographers, photo editors and agents will mingle at enlightening exhibitions, screenings, discussions, and awards ceremonies, and Canon will be right at the heart of the action throughout. For the 28th year running we’re partnering with Visa pour l’Image to champion the best in visual storytelling from around the globe. If you’re planning your visit and are not sure where to start, here are five in the Canon Experience Zone.

1. Test out Canon kit
Head over to the Canon Experience Zone to get hands-on with the all the latest Canon products – including the EOS 6D Mark II and other groundbreaking photo, video and printing equipment. You’ll find us in the festival headquarters in the Palais des Congrès. Free to enter, the Zone will be a hive of activity, and a great place to network with fellow industry insiders.

2. A Wild Life exhibition
This retrospective presents still and moving images by Canon Master and former National Geographic wildlife photographer Michael ‘Nick’ Nichols. Best-known for his remarkable documentary studies of big cats, great apes, and elephants, Nichols has worked everywhere from the Congo Basin to the the American West. He’ll also be holding a Twitter Q&A at 12.30pm on Friday 8 September. 3. Portraits shot by female photographers from Agence VU'
Established in 1986, the prestigious Paris-based Agence VU' represents some of the brightest talents working in photojournalism today. Here’s a rare chance to have your portrait taken by one of the agency’s female photographers in the Canon Experience Zone.

4. Ask the experts and get a free product service
Got any burning questions about your Canon gear? Our team of specialist technicians will be on hand throughout the festival to advise. Accredited professional photographers attending the festival are also entitled to a free quick service and clean of their Canon products.

5. Canon and Polka workshops
We’ve joined forces with French photography magazine Polka to offer emerging photojournalists invaluable storytelling workshops led by four top contemporary practitioners: Pascal Maître, Christopher Morris, Véronique de Viguerie, and 2016 Canon Female Photojournalist Award winner Darcy Padilla. Over three days you’ll cover every aspect of story development, including purpose, narrative, production, realisation, editing, and distribution.
