Keeping it steady, even when you’re not

The In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) found in the EOS R7 provides highly effective image stabilization whatever lens you’re using. But the system really comes into its own when you add an RF lens that features optical IS.
Canon EOS R7 - Benefit - Next Level Image Stabilisation

The mechanical body- and optical lens-based Image Stabilizers work together, through the camera’s high-speed RF mount, delivering up to 7 stops of protection from camera shake with the RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM1 and also offers the world’s highest level2 image stabilization at 8.0 stops3

And when you’re shooting with non-IS lenses (such as fast primes) the wide lens mount of the EOS-R system allows the EOS R7’s IBIS to still deliver highly effectively protection from camera shake.

This collaborative approach to image stabilisation opens up a world of new creative opportunities. Shoot handheld with shutter speeds of several seconds to blur moving subjects while keeping everything else pin-sharp – an approach that would otherwise need a cumbersome tripod.

Wildlife and sports photographers working with telephoto focal lengths will love the freedom to shoot handheld – even in low light – confident that the EOS R7’s collaborative image stabilisation is helping deliver the sharpest possible results.

On the level

The tilting action of the camera’s IBIS system can also level-up images, banishing sloping horizons in scenic pictures.

A new Panoramic Shot scene mode is also available, that uses the In-Body IS to compensate for the swinging movement introduced whilst panning the camera – be it left, right, up or down. The result is higher quality panoramas with fewer misalignments caused by motion.

When it comes to panning (shooting with a slow shutter speed while following a moving subject, in order to blur the background), the EOS R7 makes things easy. Select the Panning scene mode and the camera’s AF detects and tracks the vehicle while its Image Stabilizer corrects for vertical camera shake as you pan. The camera even uses its subject recognition to compensate for ‘subject shake’, giving you a much better success rate.

Ultra-smooth stabilised video

The EOS R7’s class-leading collaborative IS technology also stabilises video, for silky smooth footage that looks like it’s been shot using a dolly or gimbal. A third type of IS can be added too – Movie Digital IS works alongside the EOS R7’s IBIS and OIS, for an even smoother result.

  1. 7-stops based on the CIPA standard with RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM at a focal length of 150mm.
  2. Among all interchangeable lens digital cameras. As of May 23rd, 2022 (researched by Canon). IS performance is the same as EOS R3, EOS R5 and EOS R6.
  3. Yaw/Pitch direction, based on the CIPA standard, 8.0 stops with RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM at a focal distance of 105mm. Depending on the time of purchase, the lens firmware needs to be updated.
  4. As of May 2022. Except RF600mm F11 IS STM and RF800mm F11 IS STM
