IMAGE QUALITY

See detail like never before

A next-generation 45 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor captures incredible clarity, low noise and wide dynamic range: the perfect partner for our advanced RF lenses.

Full-frame 45 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor

For sensational clarity and detail whatever you’re shooting – even in bad light up to ISO 51,200.

Create images with another level of image quality.

Utilising the in-body IS mechanism, 9 shots are combined to create a high resolution 402mp images, Don’t forget to update your firmware, recent updates included adding vehicle tracking to the AF system, plus a number of other useful features. This can be downloaded from the support page.

Stay sharp, stay focused

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is lightning-fast to focus and boasts 5940 AF selectable positions, covering virtually 100% of the frame. Fast-moving subjects are kept sharp, even when moving quickly and unpredictably, while Face/Eye detection is superb for shallow-depth-of-field portraits.

Ground-breaking intelligent AF

The camera’s autofocus is programmed using a deep-learning AI – first developed for our ground-breaking EOS-1D X Mark III. This enables the EOS R5 to recognise and track a subject’s face and eyes with new levels of accuracy and precision, even when viewed from the side. This tracking ability is also available when photographing dogs, cats and birds, as well as motor vehicles – a first for EOS cameras.

VIDEO

Setting new standards for filmmakers… all over again

As the pioneers of DSLR video, and the developers of the acclaimed Cinema EOS range of cameras and lenses, we designed the EOS R5 to be the ultimate hybrid stills and video camera – with some formidable filmmaking capabilities.

Capture superb 12-bit RAW video internally at 8K, or record 4K (4:2:2 10-bit) at frame rates up to 120p for exceptional slow-motion effects. All this using the full-width of the camera’s full-frame sensor for a truly cinematic look. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Face/Eye Detection keeps things looking sharp and allows impressive pull-focus transitions in all video modes.

And for hybrid shooters whose priority is filmmaking, we’ve also developed the EOS R5 C, which takes filmmaking capabilities to the next level.

Canon aims to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions from its business activities by 2050

We will achieve this by delivering an average improvement of 3% per year in the lifecycle CO2 emissions improvement index per product. Which if sustained would mean roughly a 50% reduction from 2008 levels by the year 2030. We recognise this to be in line with the level of reduction called for by the Paris Agreement.

We will continue to undertake target reviews from a long-term perspective as a way of checking our contribution to the realisation of a low-carbon society.

  1. 8-stops based on the CIPA standard with RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM at a focal length of 105mm.
  2. Center point, when used with f/1.2 lenses (except with Defocus Smoothing lenses), One-shot mode.
  3. Electronic shutter up to approx. 20 fps with AF/AE tracking: Applies to some RF/EF lenses, when the aperture is fully open. See Canon’s official website for a list of compatible lenses. Burst shooting speed varies depending on the shutter speed, aperture setting, aperture condition during continuous shooting, subject conditions, brightness (especially in dim conditions), and type of lens. Mechanical shutter up to approx. 12 fps with AF/AE tracking: When using RF lenses and some EF lenses. See Canon’s official website for a list of compatible lenses. Burst shooting speed varies in up to 3 stages, depending on the battery type, remaining battery charge, number of batteries, lens in use, temperature, setting of the built-in Wi-Fi (On/Off), and whether or not you are using a battery grip and WFT unit, DC coupler or USB power adapter. In addition to the above factors, the maximum burst shooting speed may decrease due to shutter speed, aperture, flash usage, flicker reduction processing, subject conditions, brightness (especially in a dark place).
